Expressive Font

For this task, we got to choose a famous quote that could maybe be off a film or book and we had to express what the quote conveyed. This was an insight to the world of invisible and expressive fonts. I really enjoyed this task because it helped me see typography in a different way, it helped me see typography as not just words but as art. 

Mars

For this task we had a brief where we had to focus upon the langue that was used within the video. The brief was a to create a new video advertising Mars, the chocolate bar. An important part that had to be part of the video was that they both had to disagree with each other but only agree on the mars bar. My idea was to have two students that were both from different countries so spoke different languages, one was Welsh and one was Croatian. They both speak in their own languages and are clearly disagreeing and then one says Mars and then both understand and it all ends happy.

Brief - Ikea Brand Sting

In this lecture we got introduced to idents and stings, this was a branch off the bitmap lecture the week before. This brief was a two week task as it was given to us before the easter holidays, this meant that we can prepare as much as we can for it. The task was to create an ident for ikea to put at the end of every ikea advertisement. I researched a lot into the ethos and ikea and I made sure I included certain features into the ident. I really wanted to get across that it's known for it's minimalistic style and easy it is to build their products.

Bitmap Fonts

We got introduced to typography today 

This lecture was an introduction to the world of typography, we were given a brief in look to techniques like leading and kerning. We got split up into groups and we got given the task of creating our own bitmap font from a quote that was given to us. We got the quote ' By the Gods, what have I become '. It helped me understand that typefaces are built by tiny building blocks and every building block is crucial for the overall structure of a typeface. 

Black & White photography task

Before we were given our actual assessed task, we got put into pairs and were told to produce a short black & white film while having a poem being narrated over the top of it. We chose the poem ' Love & Friendship '.

For this assessment, we were told to produce a minute long black & white film that showed pictures that would be tailored to a poem of our choice.

In pairs, we were given the brief of making a animation that would be for children from the ages of 7-11. We had to create just the intro to this new concept. We had to create a animated hero that would meet different historical figures throughout the course of four minutes episodes and the character learns key facts about them.
